Car Burglaries Reported In Harbor Inn Road Area Over Christmas Holiday

Cars that were burglarized were unlocked, chief says

Police are investigating a number of car burglaries in the Cedar Beach section along Harbor Inn Road that took place early Christmas morning, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

"These motor vehicle burglaries took place in the early morning hours...before sunrise," the chief said.

Items taken from the unlocked cars included change, cash, electronics and other personal items, DiMichele said.

A resident reported seeing a subject dressed in all black, but the person fled when the resident confronted the subject, the chief said.

Why do people leave their cars unlocked? As long as I can remember there have been locks on car doors. Do they know they are there for a reason?
