Berkeley Ready For Whatever Tropical Storm Andrea Brings, Mayor Says

Flash floods a possibility; storm expected to dump three inches or more on township

Berkeley Township officials are expecting some flash flooding in low-lying sections of the township from Tropical Storm Andrea, Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. said.

Public Works Department employees have already cleaned storm drains in some flood-prone area ahead of the storm, the mayor said.

Berkeley could see as much as three inches of rain or more, with winds gusting to 25 to 30 miles per hour at times, Amato said.

"Residents should proceed with caution when driving in the low-lying areas," he said. "Our Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor the local weather briefings. We expect Tropical Storm Andrea to be downgraded to a post-tropical storm."

Some of the low-lying areas of the township - Good Luck Point, Glen Cove, Holly Park and Toms River Shores - were battered by Superstorm Sandy.
