Berkeley Police Say 20-Year-Old Man Robbed, Assaulted, Then Fled

A 20-year-old man was charged recently with robbery and resisting arrest in connect with a theft and assault at a Berkeley Rite Aid, police said.

On April 29 at 4 p.m., Ptl. Scott DeGisi responded to Rite Aid located at 416 Rt 9 for a report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival, store security advised that they had a male in custody.

Store security also advised that the suspect had assaulted the store's loss prevention officer and injured him. Once the police arrived, the man continued to resist attempts to be arrested.

The male, identified as Vincent Lawson Jr., 20, of Ringtown, Pa., fled from police custody while in handcuffs and ran onto Route 9. Sgt. Michael Roth responded to assist in the search for the subject, police said.

Lawson was captured a short distance away with assistance from the Ocean Gate Police Department. Lawson was transported to the H.Q. where he was processed. Lawson was charged with robbery, resisting arrest, theft and criminal mischief.   Bail was set at $50,000 no 10 percent.
