Police Release Names Of Those Arrested During DWI Checkpoint



Berkeley police have released arrest details of motorists who were pulled over during a Labor Day weekend DWI checkpoint in Bayville.

The checkpoint took place on Route 9, near the Berkeley Township Recreation Center, Sgt. Peter LaRocca said. .

Those arrested include:
• Robert Clelland Jr., 52, Bayville. Clelland was charged with driving under the influence.
• Karissa Nichols, 22, Toms River. Nichols was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams.
• Michele Jordan, 27, Forked River. Jordan was charged with driving while under the influence.
• Todd Zangrill, 51, Wayne. Zangrill was charged with driving under the influence.

Three other people were arrested for outstanding warrants.
They include Michael Matthews, 44, Brick; Christopher Lippincott, 27, Beverly; and Jerron Evans, 29, Lakewood.

Police also impounded three cars, in accordance with John's Law and issued other motor vehicle violations, including three unregistered vehicles, LaRocca said.

Drug Recognition Experts from the Toms River Police Department and Manchester Police Department, Pinewald Pioneer Fire Department, Berkeley Township Haz-Mat Unit and the Ocean County Road Department also assisted in the checkpoint.

The checkpoint was the latest in a continued proactive effort by the Berkeley Township Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office to curb drunk driving and educate motorists of the consequences and penalties of driving while intoxicated, he said.
