Berkeley Police Investigating Reports Of Gunshots Fired Near Good Luck Point

Berkeley Township schools notified, extra officers stationed in area around dismissal time

Berkeley police are interviewing residents who reported seeing a white male driving an SUV fire shots into the Barnegat Bay near Good Luck Point this afternoon, Detective Sgt. James J. Smith said.

"We believe it to be an isolated incident," he said. "We are interviewing other people who confirmed they heard gunshots."

Berkeley Township school district officials were notified of the incident as a precaution, since it occurred at 3:15 p.m., around dismissal time, Smith said.

"We positioned extra officers in the area to insure the safety of the children," he said.

The incident occurred near Dorrance Drive and Bayview Avenue, in the Bayville section of the township. The driver was seen heading down Bayview Avenue into neighboring Ocean Gate, Smith said.

There are no reports of injuries or property damage, he said.

"The investigation will be continuing into the evening," Smith said.

Anyone with any information should contact Smith at the police department at 732-341-1132, ext. 155, or call the main number at 732-341-6600.

Hopefully its just somebody just testing a gun.to someone from north jersey it would look like a desolat location, add firing into the water it just may be. Hey I didn't say he was bright.
Chief Wahoo April 17, 2013 at 11:42 PM
most likely, its just people celebrating the defeat of the gun bill in the Senate !!!! 2ND Amendment is the big brother of the 1ST Amendment
Matt April 17, 2013 at 11:57 PM
Maybe the guy was fishing?
Pat April 17, 2013 at 11:59 PM

Hunting for undocumented Democrats?
skizma April 18, 2013 at 12:16 AM
probably someone celebrating the bill being "shot down" today in the senate. Hey, what's the problem? Guns are fine. No problem.
Nj Ghost April 18, 2013 at 12:47 AM
Actually Skiz....You hit the nail on the head intentionally or not...Stop restricting guns and passing stupid gun laws and start enforcing the laws we already have. Start taking a closer look at the mentally Ill and the treatment that they have been getting and what treatment they are trusted with via self medication.
Sandra April 18, 2013 at 01:21 AM
I was going to say the same thing as Skizma! Really!
Bayvillemom April 18, 2013 at 01:39 AM
You know what the big deal is ??? They shot around a school, enough so that extra police were needed at dismissals. Then all parents were notified of a shooting near the Berkeley township schools. That is enough to get everyone in a panic, with just cause I might add. That is the deal. You wanna celebrate or whatever then go to a Firing range where it belongs. Not in our towns, not by our schools, and not near our children!!!!!!!!
myangel April 18, 2013 at 01:57 AM
I totally agree with bayvllemom when someone is that stupid they deserve no excuses....my child attends that school n this hit to close to home for me makes me sick...sorry but my child is my world n im so upset with this crazynesx!!!!
Nicolle April 18, 2013 at 02:06 AM
ok but why put innocent people at risk !? im for guns, but not when its being used like today ! why would you go near an elementary school around dismal time and start shooting ? thats what the issue is. im glad they arent changing the gun deal. but they wanted to do it because of rediculous people like this today ! so not right.. what if someone was injured or killed. especially a child leaving school. its good and dandy that they left it alone for no further checks but to go around and shoot randomly isnt. put yourself in someones shoes that was killed or injured because someone went around shooting. or say its one of your kids, that got shot because someone want to go around and shoot a gun ! you would be saying something completely different right now.
Bigbub April 18, 2013 at 02:53 AM
Hey, but Why North Jersey? ( lol )
skizma April 18, 2013 at 10:22 AM
Oh gees, Nicole.....just like the 6 year old. there's no repercussions or laws governing this stuff. Hey, my gun and I can do whatever we want. Innocent people, really? Get a gun then if you are concerned. Near an elementary school is worse than near a grocery store, your back yard? One life is more than another? huh......hey, it's just a gun. The people are responsible.....hahahahaha, the joke is on the American public....there are really no laws governing this type of behavior. A smack on the hand or a finger pointed at you saying....bad boy/girl, you shouldn't do that. Now go along and don't do that again. LOLOL....the family of the 4 year old with the loaded gun....don't you get it, there are NO laws governing this? Sooo thus, it's America laughing at you as they walk away doing exactly as the please, with no responsibility for their behavior. It's the behavior we need laws for, not the stupid gun. But remember - my gun, I do as I want....not matter what happens. Got that? The constitution.....my ass-end.......
skizma April 18, 2013 at 10:26 AM
Oh Bayvillemom, this is no big deal. Our laws say so, our society say so. What is this called? illegal discharge of a fire arm? hahahahahaha....really....that family of the 4 year old....nothing will happen. Nothing. Who said this was illegal? You just think it is. WE are the ignorant, idiots. Remember, less than 1/2 the people think there should be gun laws.....according to a survey of 1,000 people. Thus, it must be true. If you really feel this way, do something more. Write to your senate and congressman......I know I do.
sandy bottom April 18, 2013 at 12:56 PM
maybe more head lines for the gun grabbers
Bess B April 18, 2013 at 01:28 PM
HAH! that made me laugh.
Nicolle April 18, 2013 at 04:11 PM
I never said I was afraid. People are so rediculous now a days. Im good with guns. But not being used in the wrong way. That's what I'm not for. If had some what of a brain maybe you'd realize this world is going down more and more. If you have kids at a young age the guns should be put away and not put where they can get it. Its pathetic now a days.
lady4string April 18, 2013 at 07:25 PM
I'm glad to finally see a post regarding our courage a call yesterday regarding this alleged incident... thank you for protecting and serving but the township should have sent a message out that we are all good and don't have to be on alert....
skizma April 18, 2013 at 10:44 PM
totally agree Nicolle.....unfortunately rules are not for those how are fine. It's always for those who aren't. It's really pathetic....
Steve Rovinsky April 19, 2013 at 01:13 PM
Like to know if they got him and lock him up yet ??
foggyworld April 19, 2013 at 07:21 PM
There have been other gun jockeys out around Good Luck Point who often speed by in their boats while shooting off automatic rifles. There is just no need for this and we do have people with PTSD who just do not need gunfire added to their storm related misery. And the danger is that those boats are going way too fast and don't seem to realize just how much debris is in that shallow Bay. Automatic rifles and a trash filled Bay can lead to some very dangerous activities.
proud April 19, 2013 at 08:43 PM
Well, maybe they will hit an obstruction; their boat will sink; the gun will be lost; they will drown; and, the Sandy victims will wake up only to find that it was all just a bad dream ala Judy Garland and Bobby Ewing.

Yes, click your heels and take your bennies back to the filthy cities and maybe just maybe clean water and freedom will return to the bay area.
Ms.W April 20, 2013 at 01:18 AM
Lmao if it weren't for the bennies you people would still be going around with no teeth and broke due to the lack of spending they do here in this area and the amount of money they spend to live down here

This same incident occured a few years back on pelican island, the actor was also shooting into the bay, but unfortunately a bullet went through a home and peirced the homeowners entertainment center. The evidence was right there, intact,in the entertainment center! The incident was swept under the rug, because the actor was in fact a drunken off duty Berkeley police officer! Major players involved to keep this quiet.

Just wondering why the township attorney, the BA, and PD is keeping the Shaklee report under wraps. The above mentioned incident and others are all there in black and white. The Shaklee report is a secret investigation done while John Weinlein was chief and contains all the facts and misgivings of the police dept. The conclusion of the report states that the are several incidents that are recommended to be presented to the prosecutors office as there is at least five police personnel, some with rank, that should be investigated and prosecuted. Isn't the investigation the town payed attorney Richard,Shaklee (Wall Twp.) Public information. During the mayoral campaign, we were all led to believe that this damaging report would be addressed? More empty promises and tons of political favors still keeping this a secret fro the residents of Berkeley twp.
