Berkeley Police Bust Up Bonfire In "WOBM Pit;" Lacey Man, Others Cited

They can still apparently ride their bikes behind the old WOBM station on Route 9. But Berkeley Police draw the line on bonfires.

Four people were cited last week for allowing a bonfire to take place in the "WOBM Pit" that's used a place were illegal off-road vehicles are frequently used.

On Dec. 7 at 10:15 a.m., Ptl .Daniel Williams and Sgt. Peter La Rocca were on patrol in the area known as the “WOBM Pit.” Upon arrival they observed a large bonfire located in a densely wooded area.

They contacted four people identified as, George Colley 19 of Cliffwood Beach, Patrick McKeon 21 of Lacey, Alyssa Dickerson 20 of Howell and David Silverman 20 of Matawan.

All four were issued Berkeley Township Ordinances and were released on scene. The Bayville Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.
