Berkeley Man Killed In Parkway Construction Accident In Bass River Township

Accident happened in a closed construction zone, State Police said



A 46-year-old Berkeley Township man died yesterday in a construction accident on the Garden State Parkway, after he was struck by a Mack dump truck, State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman said.

The 11:56 a.m. accident took place in a closed construction zone near mile marker 50.1, in Bass River Township, Grossman said.

Donald Tomaio Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. He was struck by truck operated by Michael Tedesco 56, Beachwood. Tedesco, an employee of C.J. Hesse, was backing up when the truck struck Tomaio, Grossman said.

The accident is under investigation by the New Jersey State Police, he said.

Tomaio was working for a subcontractor on the Garden State Parkway project, Grossman said.
