A 35-year-old Berkeley man was charged with robbery Monday after allegedly getting into a tussle with a security officer at Walmart, police said.
At 10 p.m., Toms River Police Officer Jason Putkowski arrested Erik Pamias from Edinburgh Drive in Berkley Township and charged him with robbery.
Pamias was seen by a loss prevention officer leaving the store with a $378 laptop computer, police said. When Pamias was approached by security he turned to the officer and began to punch him in the head, causing a laceration, police said.
The struggle continued as they both fell to the ground. A co-worker approached to help during the struggle. Pamias attempted to grab a utility knife that was on the security officer’s belt, police said.
The witness assisted in subduing the suspect who was ultimately charged with robbery and is being held in the Ocean County Jail on $100,000 bail.
The store employee was treated for a cut to his forehead as well as his left eye.
