Bayville Woman Whose Car Struck Pole, Closed Down Route 9 Charged With DWI

Lauren Taylor also charged with child endangerment

Police have arrested a 30-year-old Bayville woman and charged her in connection with an accident last week that closed sections of Route 9 for almost a day, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Lauren Taylor was driving southbound on Route 9 at 10:45 p.m. on June 5 when her car left the roadway and struck a pole at Route 9 and Pelican Drive. The impact heavily damaged the pole and left wires strewn across the roadway, police have said.

Traffic had to be detoured through residential streets for hours after the accident. Taylor and a juvenile passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment, the chief said.

Taylor was later charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with a juvenile passenger, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and child endangerment, DiMichele said.

Officers Moody, Ashton and O’Connor responded to the initial crash and were assisted by Bayville First Aid, Bayville Fire Department, JCP&L utility crews and the state Department of Transportation, she said.
