UPDATE: Bayville Woman Faces Robbery Charges After Incident At Rite-Aid Store

by Patricia A. Miller

Berkeley Township police recently arrested a Bayville woman after a shoplifting incident that resulted in other charges, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Patrolmen Patrick Stesner and John Houghkirk responded to the store at 416 Route 9 on a report of a shoplifter, the chief said.

The store manager told police that a female - later identified as Samantha Cannella, 25 - had stolen roughly $100 of merchandise, DiMichele said.

"When confronted, Cannella attempted to escape by pushing the loss prevention officer and store manager into a security device which caused $1,800 worth of damage," the chief said.

Cannella was arrested and charged with robbery and criminal mischief.  Her bail was set at $5,000, with a ten percent option. She was taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, DiMichele said
