UPDATE:Bayville Men Seriously Injured In Parkway Accident Yesterday, State Police Say

by Patricia A. Miller

Two young men from Bayville were badly injured yesterday when the driver of  lost control of his car, careened off the Garden State Parkway, overturned, then struck a tree, State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman said.

Danny Viscel, 18, and Zachary Rowley, also 18, were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune after the 2:45 p.m. accident Wednesday near milemarker 88.5 on the northbound side of the parkway, Grossman said.

Rowley - a passenger in the car- suffered serious injuries to his head and pelvis, Grossman said. The car became airborne after it overturned, then struck a tree.

No summonses have been issued, but the accident is under investigation, he said.

Both Viscel and Rowley are popular students at Central Regional High School, Superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides said.

"Danny had some bump and bruises while Zack was in bad shape but is doing better and still has a long way to recovery," Parlapanides said.
"Zack had head injuries and a broken pelvis."

Members of the school district's crisis team were on call to talk to any students who needed help, he said.

"We also had Mr. Jeff Mangold, follow Zack's schedule to help students and dismiss any rumors that were going around," Parlapanides said. "Our prayers and thoughts are with Zack and the Rowley family. "

Hello I saw the accident well really the car in the tree and the car was still smoking and steam was flowing out of the front end and I swear tires were still moving. I DON'T care how it got in tree. I am thankful and praise God that both boys are alive. It was horrific it was almost an unreal sight like from a movie... And Angela is right there were cement barriers all along the right side of the parkway and when there was a break in the barriers it was up quite a ways. But I did see an elderly women on a cell phone looking back at the car in the tree. HOLY heck I started praying immediately for whomever was inside. I assumed everyone in the vehicle was dead so I started praying for their families too. I travel the parkway 45 minutes 2x a day and with all the construction going on for over 20 miles anything could have happened. It could happen any second of any day.
Lisa Melissa Greene January 10, 2014 at 05:13 PM
We do and understand what happen but for john to come on here and call our friend idiots and clowns are not necessary . These boys are seriously injured and don't need to be called any names . Yes they are young and mistakes happen but name calling don't make you right as a person who r u to judge
jem January 10, 2014 at 05:22 PM
Exactly Lisa. Even if they were at fault, he has no right to be mean about it and he should keep his negative thoughts to himself. Then again he posts this way on many articles. We can see them.
B January 10, 2014 at 05:51 PM
The people who have left awful comments can leave the negativity and rude remarks at the door. It doesn't matter how it happened, what matters is accidents happen and sometimes the results are not the best. And also, don't make accusations about your hearsay at the wawa.. I'm sure the source was accurate? What IS important are these boys, their lives, and their families and close friends. They don't need the aggravation of all this smack talk on the article. Just continue to pray for Zach.. It's going to be a long road to recovery!
Angela Sullivan January 10, 2014 at 10:32 PM
Already called them don't you worry about that. I only posted to help and dismiss any rumors that may be floating around since I'm the one who was an actual witness not just making accusations
Sabrina Davis January 11, 2014 at 12:14 AM
Do people forget the important piece of information here! 2 kids (only 18) were severely injured and could have lost their loves devastating their family, friends, and entire town!! Ya know some of you speak as if you were never 18 or you never made a bad decision while being a new driver!! Whether the accident was caused by Danny or not, the fact of the matter is we should be thanking god that he I still with us today along with his friend! Life is precious. Not everyone is perfect. I bet you wouldn't called your family member and idiot or moron if they were in that vehicle. You damn sure would be hoping people would not judge and just pray! As a family member of Danny's family, I'll tell you- I'm ecstatic that he is alive and the family isn't in crumbles and it a miracle his friend is doing better!! Maybe some of you need to look in the mirror and think about your inner selves before judging others. It's called an accident for a reason!
Kayla Jennings-Rivera January 11, 2014 at 12:28 AM
As a student of CRHS and also in the Class of 2014, I can speak for most of us when I say (regardless of what happened on the road) we are happy Zach and Danny are alive and we are praying for Zach's safe recovery.
john January 11, 2014 at 09:04 AM
How can anyone say that the passenger in this horrific accident "brought it upon" himself. That is an absolute idiotic comment. Please think of the impact of your statements before you post them. Right now, the families and the boys' very impressionable peers need support, not statements that injure further. Please dig deep and find that last drop of decency in your meager being and use it to guide the tone of your posts. And as everyone's mother and grandmother always said " if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all"
John Cobb January 11, 2014 at 09:14 AM
As a passenger, if you see the driver operating in an unsafe manner, you have the option to tell him to slow down or maybe you goad him on to drive more unsafely. Does anyone know what happened in this case? If the families of the boys are truly impacted by negative comments, maybe they need to do some soul searching about what driving safety lessons they imparted to their sons. Maybe this is how the parents drive, in which case it almost seems like "poetic Justice". Don't hate on me for exposing the truth, get off your bleeding heart, liberal bandwagon and start holding people accountable for their actions. Class of 2014, you have a bright future ahead as the minimum wage is now higher.
B January 11, 2014 at 10:07 AM
This has nothing to do with political beliefs. It has to do with being a humane individual, which you are not. I guess your parents raised YOU that way and taught you to act like this. I also see you're always on here commenting, so since you aren't a humane being.. People obviously don't like you which allows you to live on the patch..round of applause for you. Maybe you should work on yourself before you start pointing fingers and try to bring down high school kids and their families. As an adult you seem to forget what it was like to be a kid. I think you're the one who needs the soul searching, buddy.
lamb888 January 11, 2014 at 04:09 PM
My good Lord, I just can't take JOHN COBBS idiotic, uncompassionate, rude and cruel posts anymore!! DO YOU HAVE A CARING HEART IN YOU??? DIG DOWN DEEP JOHN, YOU MIGHT FIND IT. THEN FALL TO YOUR KNEES AND ASK FOR FORGIVENESS, AND PRAY FOR THOSE YOUNG MEN! WHERE YOU THERE?? DID YOU HEAR WHAT WAS GOING ON INSIDE THE CAR, WHAT THEY WHERE TALKING ABOUT? DRIVING FAST AND CARELESS CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE, NO MATTER WHAT THEIR AGE DUMBASS!!! GROW A COMPASSIONATE HEART BEFORE IT'S TO LATE FOR YOU. I WILL KEEP YOU IN PRAYER.
Sabrina Davis January 11, 2014 at 04:14 PM
It's funny how you immediately jump to blaming the kid who had no control and the parents of the driver!! I honestly hope one day you aren't in this situation but if you ever are, I hope you endure the scrutiny you have placed up these kids and their families.. You're a piece of garbage who should have no opinion as this did not affect you in any way, shape, or form! Get a life and worry about what takes place there.
LY January 11, 2014 at 09:39 PM
I sent a request to the patch to block this John Cobb... they responded and maybe now we will not have to see any of his ignorant comments. Happy to know that Danny is ok and Zach is on his way to recovery and has a great support system with his family and friends .
Heywood January 12, 2014 at 08:32 AM
While I understand all the emotional responses from friends of the two involved in this accident, it does seem at they very least the car was being operated recklessly. So to take your frustrations out on those commenting that the driver was in the wrong, makes no sense. This is a forum for discussion and I would think all views need to be heard. Just because you're friends with a murderer, for example, doesn't mean he will be forgiven, because you say so.
jem January 12, 2014 at 08:38 AM
Wow. You are just as bad as the other one. Nice name btw.(and I mean that sarcastically). Now you are comparing this kid to a murderer? It's common decency to respect the wishes of family and friends and not go on ranting about how the kid was wrong and what he heard in a Wawa. Let the police do their job and pray for these young men. They have a long road to recovery, both physically and mentally. Enough is enough!
Heywood January 12, 2014 at 08:43 AM
jem, you sure are a gem. I never said he was a murderer, just using the comparison of people blindly defending someone who's in the wrong, just because they're friends. See all the HS drama playing out on here?
jem January 12, 2014 at 08:53 AM
No high school drama, just idiots like you comparing him to a murderer. Who does that? Someone who uses a name like a high school kid. Grow up and respect the friends and family in this situation please.
Sabrina Davis January 12, 2014 at 04:38 PM
And again WHY do all views need to be heard?? Last I knew.. If it doesn't affect you, it's none of your business! Maybe all y'all who have something negative to say should keep your smart ass comments to yourselves!
Elaine Rowley January 12, 2014 at 07:59 PM
Hey Angela you said it yourself, you were in the left lane not driving fast enough and they were trying to pass you on the right.. Well here in New Jersey its keep right pass left, so if you ever come back to NJ maybe you should obey the law and stay in the right lane. Who knows maybe the accident could have been avoided if you were obeying the laws of the state of New Jersey. Oh and give me a break that your looking for attention cause you witnessed the accident. Boo hoo!!! Get over yourself, your not the first person to witness an accident! So next time you come back to NJ obey the law, or stay home.
Angela Sullivan January 12, 2014 at 09:02 PM
Wow you are a disgusting person and are no better than anyone else on here making negative comments, how has that any relevance to this at all. I was simply providing information so whoever was wondering what happened would have correct information, and where you came up with i'm looking for attention I have no idea. You literally out of no where attacked me, you're such a stand up woman, I commend you for that. I came on here with a positive attitude and with relief of its outcome, how dare you start point fingers at me making me look like the bad guy. Its none of your damn business why I was in the left lane. That car came out of no where going over 80mph and before I could even move over they were cutting across the other lanes. All you people are complaining about the negative comments and you just jump on here speculating like you were there. I can drive in whatever lane I damn well feel like it. They disobeyed the law by speeding and passing on the right but yeah its totally my fault they wanted to cut off two people. Stop trying to condone their irresponsible actions on an innocent driver. I was a single car accident, if that doesn't point the finger at who is at fault I don't know what does. Ill stay out of your garbage state and away from your terrible drivers no problem.
John Cobb January 13, 2014 at 04:38 AM
Thank you Angela for posting what you witnessed. As I said when I first started, I believed the car was being operated in an unsafe manner and despite whatever the boy's friends and family try to intimidate on here, that is a fact. I wonder if the passenger's family will contact a lawyer soon to see about a lawsuit against the driver. The only good thing to come from this is that they did not collide with another vehicle and harm innocent people. The fact that they were the only one's injured is a just result of the driver's actions. "What goes around , comes around". I hope Viscel is charged with reckless driving.
jen c January 13, 2014 at 12:03 PM
Its Not ThaT The Family And Friends Don't Realize That There May Have Been Reckless Driving Or are trying To Intimidate Others On Here, All They Care About At The MomEnt Is That Their Sons Are Alive!! No One Knows What Exactly Happened Except The Boys... I Bet You Dont Have KiDs Because If ThatwWas Your Kid, You Would Most Likely Be Less Worries AbouT Them Being Reckless And More Worried About Their Health And That They Are Alive. No One Is Perfect So Sorry The World Is not Filled With More People Like you. my heart
John Cobb January 13, 2014 at 12:10 PM
jen c this is a forum for discussion and as such we are all allowed to express our views. You have your agenda and I have mine and both should be heard. Family and friends will of course be more interested in the boy's recovery, perhaps others, not as much. I'm not trying to shut you up, don't try to shut me up. One thing that strikes me as odd, is that your name is in all small letters, yet your comment has every word started with a Capital letter. Is there a reason for that?
styles1172 January 20, 2014 at 06:08 PM
He is a newbe driver and at 18 ur mind is not fully developed yet and don't make safe decisions.he did not have enough experience behind the wheel to control the car which only comes from years of driving.we all thought we where indestructible at a teen. it was his fault not Angela no matter how u look at it . you cant hate on the kid cause he fucked up we all do at one point in are lives and hopefully learn from it. u would want forgiveness if it was u so don't pretend to be perfect cause no one is only in there head.. o by the way don't hate on are state Angela cause this could of happened to u in ur state and for some reason u seem to be surrounded by a lot of death i hope its not ur driving!! just saying...
Michelle Youngman January 23, 2014 at 03:30 PM
Actually Angela, you cannot drive in whatever lane you feel like. You are called a left lane dick. Look it up. The left lane is for passing and you could be ticketed for it. You are obstructing traffic. Though I appreciate your positive spin on a terrible situation, please take this opportunity to know the rules when you are traveling through NJ. I hate to say it, but I agree, it is quite possible you contributed to the circumstances that caused the accident. You are not responsible that another car was speeding, however, had they not had to pass you on the right they may have been able to control their car more. The driver is certainly responsible for reckless driving without a doubt...based soley on Angela's eyewitness testimony but Angela, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Don't get defensive. Get driving lessons. As far as John...people don't you get it? He is purposely on these sites to give negative input. He is supposed to get everyone all riled up to continue the comments. That is his job. If you ignore him, he will go away. Nobody is that dumb or uneducated even if they grew up under a rock. He is hired to do what he is doing. Just ignore him. Its all fake.
John Cobb January 24, 2014 at 05:08 AM
Michelle if only we ignore you, will you go away. Obviously you're a fan of the 2 boys involved so you come on with your 2 cents. Angela doesn't need driving lessons, but I would bet Danny Viscel could use some. If someone enters the left lane to pass a car in the center and some fool travelling 80 mph comes up behind them, the fool should be patient, which Viscel was not, which caused the accident.
Heywood January 28, 2014 at 11:45 AM
Any further news about legal action against this driver?
Angela Sullivan January 29, 2014 at 10:36 PM
I was in the left lane passing the car in the middle that this kid cut off, I didn't even have time to move because he was going so fast. Pretty sure I can't get ticketed for that. I know exactly what I was doing and don't need driving lessons but thanks for the unnecessary suggestion. So typical that everyone looks to point fingers at everyone but the one at fault. He made a decision to drive recklessly and he paid for it. And I never said I was surrounded by death from car accidents, you need comprehending lessons if that's what you took away from my comments. I don't need to explain myself to any one, I was just trying to help. People are so disrespectful it's disgusting and sad that social media can turn situations into something so unnecessary. I truly hope those boys recover and thank god everyday they get to wake up every morning.
John Cobb January 30, 2014 at 03:30 AM
Thank you Angela, you're a good person.
