UPDATE:Bayville Men Seriously Injured In Parkway Accident Yesterday, State Police Say

by Patricia A. Miller

Two young men from Bayville were badly injured yesterday when the driver of  lost control of his car, careened off the Garden State Parkway, overturned, then struck a tree, State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman said.

Danny Viscel, 18, and Zachary Rowley, also 18, were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune after the 2:45 p.m. accident Wednesday near milemarker 88.5 on the northbound side of the parkway, Grossman said.

Rowley - a passenger in the car- suffered serious injuries to his head and pelvis, Grossman said. The car became airborne after it overturned, then struck a tree.

No summonses have been issued, but the accident is under investigation, he said.

Both Viscel and Rowley are popular students at Central Regional High School, Superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides said.

"Danny had some bump and bruises while Zack was in bad shape but is doing better and still has a long way to recovery," Parlapanides said.
"Zack had head injuries and a broken pelvis."

Members of the school district's crisis team were on call to talk to any students who needed help, he said.

"We also had Mr. Jeff Mangold, follow Zack's schedule to help students and dismiss any rumors that were going around," Parlapanides said. "Our prayers and thoughts are with Zack and the Rowley family. "
