Bayville Man One of Two Indicted for Burglaries

Alleged thefts took place in Berkeley and Toms River townships

A 29-year-old Bayville man is accused of a string of burglaries in Toms River and Berkeley Township, while his 54-year-old co-defendant is charged with receiving stolen property and hindering his apprehension.

The charges are included in a 10-count indictment returned by an Ocean County grand jury against Patrick M. Mills of Front Street, Bayville, and Douglas Thomas of Oxford Road, Lanoka Harbor.

Mills is accused of breaking into a house on Dorsey Lane in Berkeley on Aug. 11 and stealing jewelry and electronics. Mills is charged with breaking into a house on North Bunnell Avenue and one on Stollman Street in Berkeley the following day and taking jewelry and a laptop computer.

 Mills is accused of breaking into a house on Goose Creek Road in Toms River on Aug. 13 and stealing jewelry, the indictment states.

 Thomas gave Berkeley Det. John Legg false information on Aug. 16 in an attempt to hinder his apprehension, according to the indictment. On Aug.11 in Berkeley he is accused of  receiving an Apple iPad allegedly stolen by Mills during one of the Berkeley break-ins.

Mills is free on $35,000 bail. Thomas was served with a summons.
