Bayville Man Identified in Fatal Car Fire in Wall Township

Robert Sanders, 34, found dead in car engulfed in flames

Authorities said Tuesday the man who died in an early morning car fire on Route 35 last week was a Berkeley resident.

Robert Sanders, of Leeward Court in the Bayville section of Berkeley, , First Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said. Sanders was 34.

The exact cause of death is still under investigation, Gramiccioni said. No other details on the incident were available.

Emergency crews from , and were called to 2007 Route 35 shortly before 4 a.m. on Oct. 19 for a fully involved vehicle fire.

Once the fire was put out, a single occupant, the driver, was found inside.

, Wall Township Fire Bureau, Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office, Monmouth County Medical Examiner and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office were called to the scene.

The Jeep had stopped near a , located near a rear exit to New Bedford Road. A rear wheel had exploded from the heat and the paint was singed of the vehicle.
