Bayville Man Faces Multiple Charges in Christmas Incident

Benjamin S. Gordon also indicted for assaulting a Berkeley Township police officer

An Ocean County grand jury has indicted a 35-year-old Bayville man on charges he endangered the welfare of three children on Christmas, threatened to kill them and their mother, criminally restrained the family, and assaulted a Berkeley Township cop when he tried to arrest him.

Benjamin S. Gordon of Grant Lane, is accused of endangering the welfare of boys 13 and 11, and a 7-year-old girl, threatening them and their mother that he would come into the house with a gun and kill them, and criminally restraining all four, the indictment states.

Gordon is also accused of an aggravated assault on Berkeley Patrolman Jon Sperber and resisting Sperber’s attempt to arrest him. Gordon remains lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, unable to post $75,000 bail.

In other indictments, a Beachwood man faces burglary and theft charges for a break-in in Brick Township

Justin L. Lovgren, 26, of Spray Avenue, is charged with breaking into a woman’s home on Bryn Mawr Drive on April 16 and stealing jewelry and prescription medication. Lovgren is being held in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of $75,000 bail.

Also indicted were:

John Cannella Jr. 24, of Hamilton Court, Toms River, for having heroin in Berkeley Township on April 21.

Michael A. Mele, 21, of Sunnydale Court, Bayville, for forging two checks stolen from Anne Mele at a Wachovia Bank branch on May 26.

Andrew T. Zahn III, 29, of Hurley Avenue, Bayville; Shannon L. Bullock, 27, of Nasto Terrace, Brick; and Jennifer S. Doerr, 30, of Lynchburg, Va., for having heroin March 12 in Brick.

Dennis R. Murphy, 41, of Navesink Avenue, Ocean Gate, for having heroin in Toms River on April 11.
