A 10 year-old child ran from his Ocean County home Thursday after hearing two men forcibly enter the residence at 8:20 p.m., police said.
Then, after the child told neighbors, officers arrived to find the homeowner bound and gagged by the suspects.
By then, the suspects had fled.
Brick Police Captain Robert Mazza said two black men dressed in black, their faces covered in scarves, forcibly entered the home, and one was holding a long barrel gun, the victim reported.
Though no one was injured in the incident, another child was in the home at the time of the incident, in addition to the 10 year-old who ran to neighbors' to call the police. The homeowner was left bound on the floor of the home.
The two men "ransacked the home," Mazza said, then fled on foot. Brick Police extensively searched the area, using K-9 officers and assistance from Wall and Point Pleasant Borough police.
Ishawn David Redd, of Allenhurst Avenue in Neptune Township, was arrested and charged for defiant trespass and hindering apprehension after he was found lying on the ground, hiding in a backyard on Main Avenue. Police said the trespass appears unrelated.
No charges have been filed for the Montclair Avenue incident as of yet. Mazza said the investigation is still very much underway.
He said police are looking for proceeds from the home invasion, including clothing or other items that may have been dropped in backyards as the suspects fled. Police are asking anyone who finds suspicious items to come forward.
