Matthew R. Murphy, 72, of Holiday City at Berkeley, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Community Medical Center in Toms River.

Born in Newark,Matthew lived in Union for 17 years before moving to Berkeley Township 12 years ago. He worked as a truck driver for Local #478 for over 40 years. He drove for M&M Transportation in Newark and retired from Consolidated Freightways in New Brunswick.

Matthew was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church and was a member of the Italian-American Club of Holiday City at Berkeley.

Matthew was predeceased by his brother, Thomas and his sister, Susan Kropcho. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Philomena "Mena"; his son, Matthew; three daughters, Laura Ciccone, Kelly Madej and Doreen Caputo; three brothers, Franklin Murphy, Charles "Billy" and Frances Murphy, Michael and Phyllis Murphy; a sister, Maureen and Robert Burger; a brother-in-law, Ralph and Lucky Innamorato; his best friends, Fran and Harold Hansen and is also survived by five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are Monday, April 21 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road in Toms River. 08755. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22 at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church at 11:30 AM. Entombment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River.
