Lucille C. Peterson Of Bayville Dies At 85

AGE: 85 • Bayville

Lucille C. Peterson, 85, of Bayville died April 26, 2014 after a prolonged illness.

Born in Louisa County, Virginia, she was the youngest of eight children and lived most of her life in Atlantic County, New Jersey.

She was the first female school crossing guard and member of the police department in Pleasantville. She also worked as a quality control inspector at Lenox China, a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service, and finally as a slot attendant at Bally's Casino, retiring in 1990.

Always active, she played with the Atlantic County Women's Softball League, the VAMS women's basketball team in the early 1960's, coached cheerleading and softball, coached boys basketball for PAL, rode motorcycles. Fearless and independent, she will be missed by all that knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph M. Peterson, Sr. She is survived by her children, Joseph of Egg Harbor Twp, Theresa and Patricia of Virginia, James of Georgia and Marie Gaffney of Bayville, one sister, Rose Halloway of Florida; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd in Bayville. Funeral will be Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a Prayer Service to be celebrated at 11am.
