Iris Naomi Laboy Of Bayville Dies At 68

Iris Naomi Laboy, 68, of Bayville, died peacefully in her home of 39 years on Friday June 5, 2014.

She was born to the late Francisco Hernandez and Elsa Velez, on July. 31, 1945, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. She later relocated to the Bronx where she lived until her marriage and then move to NJ.

Iris graduated from Jane Addams High School in the Bronx in 1964 and practiced as a hairstylist until her marriage in 1968. Soon after she moved to Bayville. Iris was employed at Oyster Creek Power Generating Station for 30 years until her retirement in 2014.

She was a member of St. Barnabas R.C. Church Parish community. She loved Latin music and was devoted to her family.

Iris is survived by her two children: John Anthony and Melissa Laboy as well as her grandson Alejandro Laboy, all of Bayville. She also survived by her three siblings: Francisco Hernandez, William Velez and Evelyn Diaz, all residing in Toms River.
Visiting hours will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 at Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Boulevard, Bayville, 08721. The funeral will be Monday at 10 .m. in the funeral home before celebrating an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at Saint Barnabas Church in Bayville.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
