George J. Greitz, Jr., Former STR Councilman, Dies At 82

George J. Greitz, Jr., 82, of South Toms River passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

George was born and raised in Brooklyn before moving to South Toms River in 1961. He is a graduate of Saint Johns University where he received a degree in accounting. Before his retirement in 1986, he worked at Toms River Chemical/Ciba Geigy.

George is a former councilman of South Toms River where he also served as town treasurer and tax collector. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

George was predeceased by his son, William and brother, William. Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Eleanor; sons, Robert and his wife Susan of Beachwood, Thomas and his wife Lori of Beachwood, and George and his wife Anna of South Toms River, and his daughter, Kathleen of South Toms River. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren, Thomas, George Joseph, Austin, Sydney Paige, Haley, Cooper and Samantha and also his sister, Grace Crilley of Texas and many nieces and nephews. 

A visitation will be held on from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the  "The Family Owned" Carmona Bolen Home for Funerals, 412 Main Street, Toms River. A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Barnabas R.C. Church in Bayville. Burial will follow at Long Island National Cemetery in Pinelawn, Long Island.
