Township Offering Free Smoke Detector Batteries To Residents

Batteries are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, while supplies last

Township officials are offering a limited amount of free smoke detector batteries to residents.

Residents should change batteries in their smoke detectors every six months, according to Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr and Fire Official Jack Wiegartner.

"As an added incentive this year, Berkeley Township will be offering, free of charge, a limited amount of of 9-volt and Double A (AA) batteries to township residents," Amato said in a release on the township website. "They will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, while supplies last."

Residents are limited to two 9 volt and/or six Double A (AA) batteries per household. Residents will be required to fill out a form.

The batteries can be picked up at the Fire Prevention Bureau offices located on the second floor of Town Hall at 627 Pinewald-Keswick Road between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.

"The batteries were purchased with monies received by the township for fines assessed to violators." the mayor said.
