MacMoyle, Cammarato, Pellecchia Sweep Berkeley Board of Ed Race

Incumbent Lauren Ciccone-Zawada loses bid for first full term

An incumbent, a former appointed board member and a newcomer have won the three, three-year terms on the Berkeley Township Board of Education, according to the Ocean County Clerk's Office.

Current board member Stephen J. Pellecchia, Costa Mesa Drive, John MacMoyle, Northern Boulevard and Edward F. Cammarato, Butternut Lane, won the seats over four other candidates.

Pellecchia, who lives in the heavily populated senior villages in the west of the township - was the top vote getter with 4,168 votes. MacMoyle was second with 4,061 votes. Cammarato received 3,737 votes.

Incumbent Lauren Ciccone-Zawada was next with 3,213 votes, followed by George A. Kaminski, Ravenwood Drive, who received 2,555 votes. Ciccone-Zawada won an unexpired term on the board in 2012.

Christine Dwight, Jeannette Drive, received 2,290 votes. Dwight is the current vice-president of the Central Regional Board of Education.

Former board member Thomas Guarascio, Grouse Drive, received 1,402 votes.

There were also 19 write-in votes, according to the Ocean County Clerk's Office.
