More than 200,000 remain without power in Ocean County Wednesday as the region continues to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
In a statement on its Web site, Jersey Cental Power and Light said thousands of employees are working to restore power, however the damage is significant.
"The storm damage is the worst in JCP&L history, far worse than experienced during Hurricane Irene and the October 2011 snowstorm.
As a result, restoration times will likely be longer. Restoration information will be provided as available," the statement read.
The JCP&L outage map and the Atlantic Electric outage map shows the following Ocean County towns as having the approximate numbers of power outages:
- Brick 32,000
- Jackson 25,000
- Plumstead 2,000
- Toms River 39,000
- Point Boro and Beach 9,000
- Manchester 18,000
- Berkeley 25,000
- Lacey 11,000
- Lakewood 18,000
- Stafford (Manahawkin) 7,000
- Barnegat 4,000
- Long Beach Island 20,000
Neighbors coming together. Now have real perspective on devastation all over the country from prior storms, but our beautiful coast escaped it. 28 yrs. Same house on bay. Many storms. Evacuations. But this is by far the worst. I hope for federal and stayed assistance for me and all others. Homeowners have paid in. Waterfront owners pay triple or more of average homeowner. Good luck to everyone
