Phones at police headquarters are out and several structural fires burned as Berkeley woke up to the devasation of Hurricane Sandy.
Roads are impassible in the low-lying and waterfront sections. Transformers blew overnight as a burning smell lingered along Route 9.

Mayor's Declaration of a State of Emergency
Due to the hurricane, sanitation and recycling pick up has been suspended for Monday October 29th and Tuesday October 30th. Anyone who lives in a flood prone area to utilize the Central Regional Middle School Parking lot to park a car away from flood waters. Please secure boats and boat trailers.
