Friday Foodstuffs: Easter Brunch? Of Course!

Brunch – it’s an ‘in’ thing again!

Don’t believe me? Even Bobby Flay now has a show that’s just about brunch – a point that I brought up to my other half recently. Her reaction to that point, and the conversation that followed, was very funny and, unfortunately, not appropriate for print. Remind us of this conversation the next time you see us and we’ve had a few drinks in us. We might…might…just tell you the rest of the story.

Anyways, brunch and Easter have become pretty much a given these days, and every restaurant worth its salt will be doing something for Sunday. You can see a bunch of locations listed on our Food & Wine Events page (and I’m adding even more!), but I decided to just mention a handful of great brunch options:

If you’re going to be in AC on Sunday, you cannot do much better for brunch than The Reserve at Bally’s. Chef Joseph Muldoon is doing wonders there, and their brunch is a cavalcade of tasty treats. Look for a bigger review from us about The Reserve in the near future.

You know we love Chef Alex Capasso, so it goes without saying that an Easter brunch at one of his restaurants would be high on our list. But – I’m going to say it anyway. Blackbird in Collingswood is having a special Easter brunch menu from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu looks great.

If you live in our neck of the woods, Chef Gregory Manning is putting out a nice Easter Brunch spread at The Serenity Cafe in Toms River. Brunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the cost per person is $29 ($12 for kids under 12).

How about stompin’ at The Savoy for Easter? The Savoy Inn in Vineland. that is. (I’ve been meaning to use that line forever!) Their Easter buffet goes through brunch into the dinner hour (12 p.m. to 6 p.m.), and is $25 per person. The kiddies from ages 4 to 10 can eat for $13.

Finally, for a grand day out, take a trip to Cape May and enjoy Easter brunch at Congress Hall’s ballroom. Brunch will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For the rest of the weekend, you’re pretty much on your own. Between Easter and passover, it’s a quiet time. Got a few things to share:

In Ocean County

Want to know whose sauce is boss? It’s the annual Boss of the Sauce competition at Jenks Club on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach on Monday. The contest runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and admission is $10 per person.

A Little Ways Away...

Didn’t get enough beer last weekend at the AC Beerfest? Well, Fitzpatrick’s Crest Tavern in Wildwood Crest is having a Spring Craft Beer Tasting on Saturday 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $25.

If You're Feeling More Adventurous...

Like crabs and clams? The North Italy Club in Vineland is having their annual event featuring blue claw crabs and spaghetti. The doors open at 6 p.m. at their location on Eighth Street and Virano Lane.
