Hurricane Irene Wrap-Up

Hurricane Irene Wrap- Up

In the wake of Hurricane Irene, I would like to take this time and thank those residents who evacuated voluntarily and those who left during the mandatory evacuations.

Our residents should be commended for their cooperation and understanding. Special thanks to our police, fire, first aid, public works, parks and recreation, the Office of Emergency Management, and countless other volunteers who worked tirelessly to make sure our residents were safe.

Special thanks to Chief Karin T. DiMichele for her work in coordinating the evacuations and her efforts to keep the Township Council advised of the changing conditions.  It certainly was a baptism under fire for a new chief and she came through with flying colors.

Please be advised, there are still several areas of town where the flooding has not subsided and several areas of Bayville are still without power.  JCP & L is working to get the power reconnected to those neighborhoods and I will stay on top of them to make sure they do.  With the help of Freeholder Director Joe Vicari, we are putting as much pressure on JP & L as we can.

I will continue to make sure that the Berkeley Township Council takes all the steps necessary to provide our first responders with the tools they need to prepare and keep our residents’ safe in the future.
