School Supplies Drive For Berkeley's Neediest Children Underway

Deadline is Tuesday

Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. and the Berkeley Township Recreation Department are asking residents to drop off much-needed school supplies for elementary schools in Berkeley Township.

Superstorm Sandy has left some residents in worse financial shape than last year, Amato said.

"We anticipate the need to be greater than last year," the mayor said in a flier that has been distributed around town.

Items needed include:

• Backpacks
• Notebooks
• Safety scissors
• Pens and pencils
• Erasers
• Color markers
• Glue and glue sticks
• Crayons
• Rulers

Donations can be dropped off at the Mayor's office in Town Hall at 627 Pinewald-Keswick Road or at the Recreation Center on Route 9 South in Bayville. For more information, call 732-244-7400, ext. 203.

The drive ends on Sept. 3. Donations will be dropped off at Superintendent James D. Roselli's office on Sept. 4.

Anyone who donates will be given a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of four $25 ShopRite gift cards, the mayor said.
