The club is a collection of amateur photographers who share tips and their best photos each month, said club member Ronald Nastasi. The members – 24 currently – take trips monthly for photo shoots, where they share tips and tricks and help each other improve as photographers, Nastasi said.

The photo contest – which begins Memorial Day, May 28, and ends on Labor Day, Sept. 3 – has three objectives: to increase membership in and awareness of the club; to help the club raise funds for its field trips and to help promote Berkeley Township.

“We want to get Berkeley more noticed,” Nastasi said.

To that end, the contest has a simple concept: Capture photos that represent what you think illustrates summer in Berkeley Township. Maybe it’s photos at Berkeley Island County Park. Maybe you walk the trails at Double Trouble State Park. Maybe you catch a night at a Sounds of Summer concert at Veterans Park.

The possibilities are endless.

The basic rules are simple: You must be an amateur photographer who is at least 18 years old and your photos must be taken in Berkeley Township no earlier than Memorial Day and no later than Labor Day. All entries must be in by Sept. 13. And you must fill out an official entry form.

Entry forms and complete rules are available at the Berkeley Township Clerk’s Office, 627 Pinewald-Keswick Road, Bayville, or at the Holiday City at Berkeley Shareowners Office, 631 Jamaica Blvd., Toms River.

At the end of the contest, the club will be printing a book that’s tentatively titled “The Fabulous Summertime of Berkeley Township 2012” that will include the winning entries. The grand prize winner will receive a copy of the book.
