Superstorm Sandy Victims Urged To Apply For Help From Robin Hood Foundation

Residents must meet income guidelines, show proof of damage and residency

Berkeley residents recovering from Superstorm Sandy can apply for grants from the Robin Hood Foundation on the township's website.

Berkeley recently received a $200,000 grant from the nonprofit organization, which will be doled out to eligible residents in the form of gift cards, appliance purchases or payments made by the township on behalf of residents.

No money will be given out and the program is only available to full-time township residents, Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. said.

"The township applied to Robin Hood for a grant to help the residents of Berkeley, so many of whom have found insurance and/or federal aid to be inadequate in dealing with all the costs associated with the storm," the mayor said.

Any bills paid on behalf of a grant recipient must be for work, materials or supplies to help the resident restore their home, according to the website.

"Grants are expected to range from $300 to $1,000 and a determination as to the exact amounts will be done after all applications have been received and reviewed," the website states. "Please note all claims and requests must be supported by the appropriate documentation and an interview may be necessary."

Anyone who applies must have been a full-time resident on Oct. 29, 2012, the day Sandy struck. Verification in the form of bills, purchase orders or quotes must be supplied. Proof of identification and residency are required.

Full-time renters must show proof of being a resident on Oct. 29, 2012, as well as a current lease showing residency, according to the website.

Applications may be dropped off in person at the Township Clerk's office in Town Hall at 627 Pinewald-Keswick Road; mailed to Berkeley Township Hurricane Relief Fund, P.O. Box Box B, Bayville, NJ 08721 or faxed to 732-505-0145 ....Click Here for the Application
