'Stronger Than the Storm' Raises Awareness

Children run along the shores of Seaside Park with kites flying over head as others get sand castle lessons from world renowned Sand Sculptor, Matt Long, at Saturday’s Kites and Castles event sponsored by the Stronger than the Storm campaign.

“This is a great organization to be a part of,” Long said.

Stronger than the Storm is a consumer campaign dedicated to reviving tourism along the coast of New Jersey. It also helps bring awareness to Superstorm Sandy recovery to both locals and tourists visiting the area.

“This storm has given all of New Jersey a tremendous sense of pride—and rightfully so. It's one of the most beautiful states we have,” Long said.

Long, a Staten Island native, was both honored and flattered when he was asked to be a part of the campaign because he said wanted to do something to help the Jersey Shore.

“It has been spectacularly received,” Long said.

Some of Longs students, such as the Bove family, say even though they are already avid sand castle builders, they are eager to learn some new tips from a pro.

“Why not learn from a guy who knows what he is doing,” Joe Bove said.

The family, who lives in Seaside Park during the summer, has also participated on other Stronger that the Storm events this season such as Tug-O-War and Boats and Boards.

“They're just fun. It's a family fun environment thats great for the kids to come to,” Bove said.
