DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday May 23rd Macculloch Hall  Historical Museum is p
 leased to welcome speaker Bernard Olsen in conjunction with the museum&r
 squo\;s current exhibit &ldquo\;Gone for a Soldier:&rdquo\; Jerseymen in
  the Civil War. &nbsp\;Presented in collaboration with the New Jersey Ci
 vil War Sesquicentennial Committee this new exhibit brings together for 
 the first time about two hundred objects from the Civil War from nearly 
 thirty museums\, historical societies\, and private collections. Each mo
 nth through June the Museum is presenting a lecture relating to the exhi
 bit.\nMr. Olsen will share a lecture entitled &ldquo\;New Jersey&rsquo\;
 s Civil War Experience: Letters &amp\; Journals of Members of the 13th a
 nd 14th Volunteers&rdquo\; &mdash\; The story of New Jersey&rsquo\;s rol
 e in the Civil War through the letters of six soldiers from the 14th Reg
 iment and journal entries from the 13th Regiment on Sherman's March To T
 he Sea.\nBernard A. Olsen has a bachelor&rsquo\;s and master&rsquo\;s de
 gree from Monmouth University. He is the author of Upon The Tented Field
 \, about New Jersey&rsquo\;s role in the Civil War told through six sold
 iers&rsquo\; letters of the 14th NJ Volunteers\, and A Billy Yank Govern
 or: The life and Times of New Jersey&rsquo\;s Franklin Murphy. The latte
 r captures the true story of a young Civil War soldier who later is elec
 ted governor of New   Jersey. Olsen has also lectured extensively to his
 torical societies\, college and university honor societies\, libraries\,
  and fraternal organizations. He is retired after teaching history for o
 ver thirty years at Marlboro High School in Marlboro\, New Jersey. He al
 so taught history courses at Georgian Court University and Brookdale Com
 munity College. Mr. Olsen will be available after the lecture to sell an
 d sign &ldquo\;Upon the Tented Field&rdquo\; and &ldquo\;A Billy Yank Go
 vernor: The Life &amp\; Times of NJ&rsquo\;s Franklin Murphy.&rdquo\; &n
 bsp\;These books contain research that was the inspiration for this lect
 ure.\nAll lectures start at 7pm with tickets available from 6:30pm and a
 re held at the Cincinnati Masonic Lodge No. 3\, 39 Maple Avenue (one blo
 ck from the museum). Tickets for the lectures are Adults $8\, Seniors $6
 \, Students (over 12 years) $6. Members of the Museum will receive a $2 
 discount for these special programs. Memberships can be purchased at the
  door.&nbsp\; Cash or check only please. Ticket holders to the museum ex
 hibit will receive a $2 discount to the lectures with proof of admission
 \; lecture ticket holders may also receive a $2 discount on a museum exh

 ivil War Lecture Series the Museum will have extended exhibit hours from
  1pm - 6:30pm.&nbsp\; &ldquo\;Gone for a Soldier&rdquo\; is on display W

 w Jersey Sesquicentennial Committee\, commemorating the 150th anniversar
 y of the American Civil War\, a volunteer organization working for incre
 ased awareness and recognition of New Jersey&rsquo\;s important role in 
 the Civil war\, has been recognized by the New Jersey Governor and both 
 houses of the New Jersey legislature. Macculloch  Hall Historical  Museu

 rea community\, and the legacy of its founder W. Parsons Todd through it
