Coming into Wednesday’s game with Lacey, Central Regional coach Kristee Paknis had not been happy with her team. In a 4-1 win over Jackson Liberty on Monday, the Golden Eagles had started the game with a lackluster effort, giving up a goal early before coming alive late in the second half for the victory. “You got lucky today,” she told the girls after Monday’s game. On Wednesday, there was no luck about it; it was all about the effort, and the willpower and heart, especially that of Samantha Jensen. Jensen had a hat trick and scored the winning goal in the 70th minute, sliding in front of …

The Central Regional girls soccer team improved to 3-0 on Friday, but it took some last-minute heroics by Gina Cowdrick to make it happen. Donovan was leading 1-0 on Erin Ruddy's goal when Cowdrick, a senior midfielder, volleyed in a cross from senior forward Samantha Jensen with less than a minute in regulation to tie the game. Then she did it again, scoring off a corner kick that turned into a scramble in front of the the net. "The ball was bouncing around in the box and it just …

Sophomore Lizzy Kroon scored twice and assisted on the goal by freshman Erin Trapp as the Central Regional girls soccer team beat Pinelands 3-0 on Wednesday in Bayville. The Golden Eagles improved to 2-0 overall and in Shore Conference Class B South, the first time the girls have won their first two games in a few years, assistant head coach John Truhan said. Kroon scored her first goal 26 minutes in, and Trapp tallied the second off Kroon's pass not long before halftime. Then Kroon sealed the game in the 68th minute off what Truhan described as a pretty feed from Lindsey Mahnken, Central's …

The Golden Eagles (1-0, 1-0) received goals from Jess Sudia, Fran Figurelli and Lauren Castellano as they beat the Green Dragons in Class B South. Sudia, whose goal-scoring prowess helped power Central in 2010, opened the scoring at the 4:51 mark off a pass from Ashley Aires.
