What Do You Plan On Giving Up For Lent?
Ash Wednesday is coming up this week
Millions around the world will flock to churches on Feb. 22 to observe Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, which ends 40 days later on Holy Thursday, the prelude to Easter.
And many will give up favorite foods or other worldly pleasures. But according to Catholic Online, Lent is more about turning lives over to Christ and giving up sin in some form.
"The goal is not just to abstain from sin for the duration of Lent, but to root sin out of our lives forever," according to the website.
Are you planning on giving up anything for Lent? If so, what will it be?

I'm giving up on the Patch. It was ok during the election, but the few articles written since then are useless and boring. I'm back to a real newspaper. Good bye!

Do they still print 'real' newspapers?

The focus should NOT be upon "giving up," but, rather "DOING!" Lent is seen as a time for deepening your spirituality; a need to go within yourself to make yourself a better person in tune with the life, gospel, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus.
Giving up on sweets, or whatever is mundane to fasting; spiritualizing, pondering the scriptures again and doing something for another person. Lent is a time for reaching out as you reach within! "We rise again from ashes to create the world anew!"

I think doing whatever the individual wants to do whether its giving something up, or doing something for someone should be left up to the him/herself.
As long as that individual is doing it all for the right reasons why should they be told what they should or shouldn't do ?
God gave up his son for us. He's not asking that we do the same.
So if giving up candy is the best a person can do... then so be it.
Giving up sweets or whatever is NOT mundane Anthony! Thats just your opinion and shouldn't be minimized for someone else.
