If you didn't think Sandy's threat was serious before, perhaps you will now. Wawa, the venerable food store that never seems to close, will evacuate many of its locations in coastal areas.

Despite heeding evacuation orders where mandatory, however, the company said in a statement Sunday night that it would try to keep as many stores as possible open during the storm.

"Wherever possible, as long as the safety of our customers and associates is not compromised, we will attempt to remain open in order to serve the community and the first responders who count on us during times of crisis," the company said.

The company said it closed several of its stores in southern New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland after the areas in which they were located had been evacuated. Local Wawas that have closed include:

• Normandy Beach (Toms River/Brick)
• Ship Bottom (Long Beach Island)
• North Beach Haven (Long Beach Island)
• Barnegat Township
• Margate
• Ocean City
• Brigantine
