The Berkeley Township Public Works Department is going from neighborhood to neighborhood all week to pick up any debris from Hurricane Irene.

"We've been out there all week," said Sanitation and Recycling Coordinator Mark Vannella. "We'll get anything storm-related."

Tree limbs and brush do not have to be tied or bundled for the pick-up, Vannella said

"We are excusing that part of the ordinance," he said.

Leaves must be bagged, the same way they are handled during spring and fall leaf collections, Vannella said.

"There's a lot out there," he said. We've gotten about 12 garbage truckloads so far in two days."

Residents who don't want to wait for the trucks can bring any debris to the township's recycling center on Pinewald-Keswick Road. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, Vannella said.
