Rumors Of Child Luring Incident In Bayville Appear To Be Unfounded
Police have no reports of any activity
Although rumors of a recent child luring incident in Bayville have been swirling through town and on Facebook, the reports appear to be unfounded, according to police and school officials.
Berkeley Township Schools Superintendent James D. Roselli said at last night's Board of Education meeting he had spoken to Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele about the rumors.
"It's alleged that two young ladies were lured into a van here in Berkeley Township," Roselli said. "It's unsubstantiated. They could find no information on that."
Detective Sgt. James J. Smith said yesterday that no one had reported any child luring incidents to the police, even though some people had discussed the topic on Facebook.
Roselli made the remarks after discussing the district's new child abduction prevention program slated to eventually reach all four elementary schools.
"We are always proactive here in Berkeley Township," he said.
