Police Charge Motorist Asleep At The Wheel With Drunk Driving

Driver found dozing with motor running in parking lot of Cedar Creek Garden Center

Police recently charged a Toms River man with driving while intoxicated after they found him passed out in his Honda Civic at the Cedar Creek Garden Center, Detective Sgt. James J. Smith said.

"His head was resting on the steering wheel and the car was running," Smith said.

Patrolman Scott Rudolph arrested Nicholas Healy, 27, Mystic Port Place, at 2:57 a.m. on Oct. 7 in the parking lot of the garden center on Route 9 South, he said.

"When officers arrived, they detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage," Smith said. "They found a 40-ounce bottle of Budweiser in the car and determined he had been drinking in the vehicle."

Healy was taken to police headquarters and his car was impounded, Smith said.
