Waretown man charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane after striking two vehicles
A Waretown man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a three-car motor vehicle accident in front of Oyster Creek Generating Station.
Route 9 was shut down for approximately 20 minutes on Friday while police investigated the accident in which Richard Bischoff Jr., 40, of Waretown allegedly struck two vehicles at 6 p.m.
Birschoff's Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling southbound on Route 9 before he crossed over the centerline and sideswiped a passenger car driven by Joyce Crothers, 80, of Forked River, police said.
Birschoff's vehicle then entered the northbound lane of Route 9 and struck a second vehicle, driven by Marianna Gallotta of Bayville, head on, police said.
Gallotta and Crothers were transported to Community Medical Center for injuries sustained as a result of the accident. Both women were discharged from the hospital after being treated for minor injuries, according to police.
Bischoff was allegedly under the influence of prescribed narcotics at the time of the accident, police said.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.
