Pedestrian Injured On Route 37

Bayville man was crossing Route 37 at Marian Street.

A Bayville man was struck by a motor vehicle while attempting to cross Route 37 in Toms River Saturday night.

Toms River Police Officer Robert Westfall is investigating the pedestrian accident that occurred 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 37 and Marian Street.

Michael Ryder, 54, of Driftwood Drive, Bayville, was crossing Route 37 in the eastbound lanes.

After one vehicle stopped for him, he walked directly in front of another vehicle that was eastbound and was struck, according to Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.

The vehicle that struck him was a 2010 Mazda operated by Ashley Buonavolonta, 21, of Stafford Township.

Mr. Ryder was transported to Jersey Shore Hospital in Neptune Township.

Unfortunate, but there's no light or crosswalk...I actually feel just as bad for the unsuspecting driver...hope ALL recover.

actually he was on his bike . I spoke with him 30 min before he got hit. and I was across the street when he got hit and he had hit his head proir to this accident so he probably wasnt in the right mind, dont call him a dumbass.. he is a sweet, grateful man who got hit by car. where is your sympathy for other human beings.

Riding a bike at night is just simply dumb. Your chances of getting hit are very good.

I am sure there were other factors involved that have not been disclosed yet, regardless...hope he recovers safely and I hope the young girl who accidentally hit him knows that it was not her fault, what an awful incident to have to go through.

Riding a bike or walking on 37 at night is an invitation to say come and hit me.Especially in this town.
