Freehold Woman Dies After Collision With Bayville Motorist
Howell police investigating late-night Friday collision at Strickland Road and Route 9
A Freehold woman died after sustaining injuries in a vehicle collision Friday night in Howell.
Township police are investigating the 11:45 p.m. collision at the intersection of Strickland Road and Route 9 that claimed the life of Eileen Figueroa, 26, of Freehold.
Howell police said Figueroa was driving a 2010 Mazda 3 sedan late Friday when she was struck by a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer operated by Bilge Santamaria, 34, of Bayville. Figueroa's car sustained heavy passenger side damage, police said.
Santamaria's SUV sustained front-end damage and caught fire after colliding with a traffic light, police said. She was able to get out of her truck along with two of her children, ages 9 and 11, while a passerby helped remove her 5-year-old child from the Chevy, police said.
Howell First Aid and MONOC Paramedics transported Santamaria and her three children to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where they were treated and released.
Figueroa was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where she died of her injuries.
Route 9 South was closed at Elton Adelphia Road until early this morning.
The Howell Township Police Department, Monmouth County Prosecutors Office, Howell Township First Aid Squad and Adelphia Fire Company all responded, according to Patrolman Scott Brooks, who is leading the investigation.
Anyone with information related to the collision is asked to contact Brooks at 732-938-4111.

With all do respect Dennis; this was not deliberate or premeditate murder... This was an accident and placing someone in jail for the sake of justice is merely not serving justice at all.

To Romona Ricart, you have no idea what this was it wasnt an accident any one going 91 miles an hour on Rt 9 and running a red light is no accident. my sister was murdered so you need to not get involved JUSTICE NEEDS TO BE SERVED.! My sister was 26 years old and was on her way home from work. she was not ever 5 min away from our home. That person who you say shouldnt be in jail SHOULD BE IN JAIL. She decided to speed with 3 children in the car and she decided to run a red light thinking the law didnt apply to her. SO She will have to face that the law and JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED. So Romona Ricart you have no right to say shit to our family because you have no idea what our family is going through. It was a car crash not a car accident.......

She may not have cared about her life.. or those effected by the car accident. But my Sister Eileen can never be replaced & I don't wish Jail on anyone but our family is already serving a life sentence with the hurt, pain & loss of our Eileen. All I can say is I leave it in Gods hands to serve Justice!! R.I.P Eileen Figueroa <3
