Looking For a Summer Job? Two Seasonal Job Fairs: Saturday, Wednesday
Seaside Heights, Ocean County Library hosting events
It's getting down to the wire to get a summer job. But two job fairs hope to corral the hundreds of employees needed locally to staff for the season.
One is this Saturday, noon to 3 p.m. on the Seaside Heights boardwalk. A second is hosted by the Toms River branch of the Ocean County Library, and will be held May 9.

On May 5, Seaside Heights will have its job fair, which is hosted by the State Department of Labor and features multiple seasonal employers for businesses there.
The jobs, which last from about Memorial Day to Labor Day, often pay minimum wage.
Both the Seaside and Point Pleasant Beach job fairs, which was last month, have drawn hundreds of applicants who fill out applications and are often interviewed right then.

Ocean County Library
The Ocean County Library is seeking employers to participate in a Summer Job Fair for Young Adults scheduled for Wednesday, May 9.
The library will once again offer employers and young job seekers the opportunity to connect at the second annual Summer Job Fair for Young Adults. The event is free for employers to reserve a table and free for job seekers to attend.
The Summer Job Fair for Young Adults will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Mancini Hall, Ocean County Library, Toms River branch, 101 Washington St., Toms River.
In 2011, the Summer Job Fair for Young Adults attracted more than 12 employers and an estimated 300 young adult job seekers.
The Ocean County Library is seeking employers in categories such as retail, food service, entertainment, healthcare, hospitality, clerical support and technology. We encourage local businesses to participate. Your participation in our event will grant your visibility as a supportive community partner to our schools and library system.
The Ocean County Library is dedicated to providing our residents with life and job skills and this Job Fair concludes a special “Job Fair Workshop Series” that was held this Spring that prepared our young adults for the job process. The 2nd Summer Job Fair for Young Adults is a partnership between Ocean County Library and NJ Dept. of Labor & Workforce Development.

Job seekers planning to attend are encouraged to register at theoceancountylibrary.org. All attendees are reminded to dress appropriately for a job interview and to bring a smile with a pen, your social security number and plenty of resumes.

Why do they give most of the jobs on the boardwalk to foreigners?They barely understand what you are ordering.Give the jobs to the unemployed americans.

Unemployed Americans will not work for minimum wage. Unemployment checks in the mail is much easier. Foreigners need to hustle, unemployed don't bother.

Our work ethic is horrible.
The unemployed adults refuse...unless its for cash, so there is no conflict with their unemployment benefits
Most, not all teenagers, do not know the meaning of hard work.
Most want to rely on family or mom and dad for $.
We as a country are in trouble.

Minimum wage is SSH or SSP isn't much when you figure the price of gas + parking fee's , even if Mom & Dad pay the car insurance and you live home...If there's a lot where workers can park for free, please let us know ( within walking distance to to the boardwalk ) The people doing the hiring know that they can get away with a lot more with foreign kids ( where are they going to go) they don't know the labor laws. The US kids will just up and quit, if pushed to do something they know is wrong .It wouldn't be the first time a kid was taken advantage of , by an employer on the Boards.My Daughter worked for Kohr's for years when Mike owned it , he was great with the kids and he was firm but respectful and gave them good advice on work and after work ethic's.My daughter would surf before and after work so much the Local's called her " Giget " she asked me , who's Giget ( Sally Field + later the " Flying Nun ) and I had to tell her about the 60's TV and movies , back in the day . LOL's So she said ..Ok I'm Giget

I hear a lot of local kids complain about the pay the boardwalk pays out. According to many they do not even pay close to minimum wage. They get to pay special wages such as a server and they are not even servers. What a racket they have going on? They would rather work in the malls or even Mickey D's because they at least pays minimum wage.
