List of School Board Candidates Finalized, One Person Withdraws

Voters will decide terms for both Berkeley, Central Regional school boards

One candidate has withdrawn from the Berkeley Board of Education contested races, while in Central Regional the school board candidates remain uncontested.

Voters will come to the November polls for the first time for a school board election, as Berkeley opted to switch school board elections from April to November.

Berkeley School Board

Seven candidates are vying for three spots on the Berkeley School Board. They are three year terms.

An eighth candidate, Liete M. Bento withdrew from the race on Aug. 30, according to the Ocean County Clerk's Office, no reason given.

That leaves seven candidates: John MacMoyle of Northern Boulevard,  Louis Tuminaro of Deal Avenue, David Ytreboe of Manhattan Avenue, Keith Fisher of Pheasant Drive, George Kaminski Jr. of Ravenwood Drive, Donnie Clyburn of Second Avenue and Patrick Mooney of Pheasant Drive.

In addition, voters will decide a one-year term to fill a board vacancy. Lauren Ciccone-Zawada of Mill Creek Road and Gerard Reuter of Scott Drive are vying for the spot.

MacMoyle, Ytreboe, Tuminaro and Reuter are current board members, but were appointed to the board, not elected, earlier this year to fill board vacancies.

Central Regional School Board

Candidates are running unopposed for the Central Regional School Board — where two candidates are running for the two, full-term seats and one candidate is running for the unexpired term.

Nick Mackres of Halsey Avenue is the candidate for the one-year term.

Two incumbents are running unopposed for the three-year terms: Board President Keith Buscio of Orsaf Lane and board member Robert J. Everett Jr.

Tuminaro and MacMoyle were both appointed onto the board, not voted in. BTW.

ALL of the "incumbents" in the race for Berkeley School Board were appointed, not elected.

thanks for clearing that up, I wasn't 100% positive about the others.
I wonder if the Patch can do interviews with those running?

What ever happened to School Boards being non-partisan? Every single current member of the Berkeley Township Board of Education is a registered Republican. That includes the four "appointed" members. I wonder why these particular individuals were all appointed when those vacancies opened up? Hmmm
