Lighthouse Christian Worship Center Damaged in DWI-Related Accident

Motor vehicle accident leaves local Christian church with significant damage

A motor vehicle accident in the morning’s early hours has left two local men injured and one church building with significant damage.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. this morning, a 2007 Mazda operated by Lanoka Harbor resident Randy Rozell was traveling on Route 9, in the vicinity of Bay Way. At that time, police reported, the vehicle left the roadway, became airborne, and collided with the Lighthouse Christian Church, which is located at the corner of Route 9 and Bay Way. The church was left with “extensive damage” in the crash, according to authorities.

Rozell was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for evaluation of head injuries, in addition to being charged with DWI and numerous other motor vehicle violations. Rozell’s passenger, 22-year-old Robert Plaschke of Forked River, also suffered head injuries in the accident and was similarly transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, for evaluation by their trauma unit.

Assisting at the scene were the Lanoka Harbor Fire Department and Lanoka Harbor First Aid Squad. Also responding were the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. Ptl. Robert Flynn of the Lacey Township Police Department is currently investigating the crash.

Patch will have an update on this story later today.

App.com is reporting the driver was treated and released the passenger is in stable condition...although I'm glad no one was killed I can't help but be mad at the fact that people aren't understanding that even one drink can kill them when they get behind the wheel or even worse they could have killed an innocent person....I travel that road almost daily with my three young children I have also lost people and have had people injured bc someone felt that they were ok to drive....so yes I'm mad but hopefully this is a wake up call to these guys and thank god no one else was injured I also feel sorry that now that beautiful small church was damaged

A "standard" drink has a .02 blood alcohol level. The body eliminates one drink per hour, so 4 beers, or 4 8o.z. glasses of wine, or 4 shots of whiskey (1ounce per shot) in two hours is good to drive, that's .06 blood alcohol. I'm not advocating drunk driving, driving TIRED is more dangerous than having 1 or 2 drinks.

@billy bob all the math in the world..==== It is illegal Drunk is drunk & there is a good reason why ,By the way those numbers are estimates ,Too many factors come into play ,weight ,metabolism ,last ate, taking precription or illegal drugs along with , Take alook at accident stats DWI kills more than tired drivers

I understand that and that's all fine if there aren't other Factors that contribute to alcohol consumption and the effect it has on a person, such as metabolism, empty / full stomach, medication interaction, weight, height etc...I'm 5'9" 150lbs and have felt dizzy after a glass of wine on an empty stomach..regardless of how many drinks you have you still run the risk of an adverse reaction just as you would if you got behind the wheel tired ...you can always take a nap or call a taxi and no one gets hurt...but people always have the mindset of "it can't happen to me " well guess what it can and if you continue to think like that it will happen to you.

to peopleannoyme: YOUANNOYME I didn't say I was perfect but I DO NOT put my life or others at risk EVER because of illegal bad choices. I also don't think it was a nasty comment and it wasn't directed at only these two individuals. I happen to know them both and wish them a speedy recovery and hope it was a lesson learned the EASY way. (yes i mean easy) NO ONE WAS KILLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like neither driver or passenger had a seatbelt on. A 2007 Mazda has front and side airbags. Airbags only work in conjuction with seatbelts. Airbags prevent head injuries. So many people giving this driver a pass(wait until he kills some one) when the driver could be delt with now and his license taken away. According to AAA magazine teens and early twenties drivers have more single car accidents which kill 17,000 drivers a year.

@ Johnny do it. hmmm. This was a sad event thank God both boys are doing ok. I know the parents and know they are always willing to pick up not only their child but friends of their child if they need a ride rather than have them drink and drive. They have been good parents and have volunteering with sports and school events. Young people make mistakes and hopefully learn from them. Not all of us are born perfect. If you have all the answers on how to deal with children that drink I would like to know that answer because I have a child that drinks and is in their 40's and have tried just about everything that has been suggest and have not had any results. My pray is God please help me to make good dicisions when it comes to my child, please don't let my hands get in the way of yours Lord. Please help me to trust in your more today than yesterday. Please keep my child safe and other's safe that come in his path. It is not easy on parents when our children make mistakes but after the age of 18 our hands are tied and we are left not being able to do anything but pray, go to therapy, So please tell us what your answer is, because I would do anything for my child to stop drinking. I have three grandchildren and I worry about them and never get a full nights sleep and can tell you that social services do nothing to help. Randy is young this is his firt time drinking and drive and I believe that with the help of his parents and family, friends and the church praying.
