Jail Inmate Indicted in Plot to Kill Wife, Daughter

Former Beachwood resident held on $750,000 bail

A Beachwood man remains jailed on attempted murder charges for attempting to hire someone to kill his wife and daughter, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Philip B. Florio, 53, was indicted last week by an Ocean County grand jury on two counts of attempted murder and two counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford has said Florio asked other inmates at the Ocean County Jail if they knew of someone who could kill his family members this past fall. The information was relayed to the Prosecutor's Office, which began an undercover investigation, Ford has said.

Ford said that on or about Nov. 28, Florio offered money and "other consideration" to a person he thought was a fellow inmate to kill his family members.

"Fortunately, the person Mr. Florio attempted to engage was an undercover officer working with this office,” Ford said.

Florio remains in the Ocean County Jail on $750,000 bail.

"The special conditions of bail include that the defendant be restrained form having contact with the intended victims," Ford has said.

There is no excuse for stupidity. Did this guy think he wouldn't get caught?

Death would be to good for him. He should spend every waking moment in solitary confinement.
