Explosives Training Thursday at Joint Base May Cause Noise, Ground Shaking

Training will be completed by 11 p.m.

Some residents may hear additional noise and experience ground shaking Thursday as explosives training exercises are conducted on the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst ranges.

Members of the 87th Civil Engineer Squadron are conducting training at the installation's ranges from 7 a.m. through 11 p.m., Media Relations Chief Bill Addison said.

"As a result of this important training, some residents may hear more noise than usual coming from the joint base's ranges and may experience possible ground shaking," Addison said. "Additionally, noise from the ranges may travel farther if weather conditions are overcast."

Skies will be mostly cloudy Thursday, with the chance of isolated showers after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Base range complexes, which are located between McGuire and Dix near Ocean County's border with Burlington County, are occasionally used for training. Most recently, the FBI's New York Bureau trained there in July.

Residents throughout Ocean County, including those in Manchester and Lakehurst, often experience the results of the training despite the long distance to the ranges.

The base "works hard to minimize the impact training has on its surrounding communities and is committed to remaining good neighbors," Addison said.

Those with questions or concerns can contact the installation's Public Affairs Office at 609-754-2104.

I heard booms on Kettle Creek Rd. late afternoon, or was that Christie walking out of his town hall meeting in Lacey?

There is a model State Ordinance which any town can adopt to keep the level of noise reasonable. Try it because it works.
