Central Regional School District Mourns Loss Of Popular Middle School History Teacher

David Vignevic was killed when his car struck a telephone pole in Manchester Township

A Central Regional Middle School history teacher was pronounced dead at the scene after his Honda Accord struck a utility pole and overturned in Manchester Township on Friday night.

David Vignevic, 34, was traveling west on Route 571 at 4:24 a.m., when the car left the roadway, struck a utility pole, overturned and hit a tree near Quarry Road, Manchester Township Police Capt. Lisa Parker said.

"He was hired in 2006 and was a bright young teacher with a promising future," Central Regional Schools Superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides said. "My thoughts and prayers go out to his family."

Parlapanides waited until Monday to make the announcement so crisis and counseling teams could be activated.

"We have counselors following his class schedule to assist any students that need it and our crisis team is ready for any teachers or students that need assistance," he said.

Vignevic was wearing a seatbelt and was traveling alone, Parker said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.

The Manchester and Ridgeway fire departments assisted police at the scene, as well as paramedics from MONOC, Quality Medical Transport, the Ocean County Criminalistic Investigation Unit and the Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office.

The crash is being investigated by Manchester Patrolmen Ian Bole and Antonio Ellis.

This was Deven's 7th grade teacher last year 2011-2012..This strikes you right in the heart. So sad, he was my son's teacher last year 2011-2012.. My son has Type 1 diabetes and it affects them in many ways, including their learning ability from high/low blood sugars. Mr. Vignevic was that understanding, caring and supportive teacher, right on top of caring for him when we couldn't. He was also a fair and fun teacher, remembering the stories our son would come home with and how he made them laugh. He just said to me, "Mom, I would peek in his room everyday after lunch (this year) and say hello since I pass his classroom" He would always smile and say hello back to him!! He will be greatly missed.. RIP to a wonderful teacher, friend and human being.... You will never be forgotten.

A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.

A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for others.

The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you.

The best teacher is the one who suggests rather than dogmatizes, and inspires his listener with the wish to teach himself.

Teachers who inspire realize there will always be rocks in the road ahead of us. They will be stumbling blocks or stepping stones; it all depends on how we use them.

Our hearts are broken.. :(

He was a well liked teacher at Central, I know my daughter and friends are very sad about losing someone they respected and loved so much, I hope his family knows how much he was loved by the students whose lives he touched. R.I.P. Mr. V
