Clothing, Furnishings Donations Being Accepted at Rec Center

Those who want to help fellow residents in need can bring gently used clothing and other items to the center on Route 9

As cleanup from Hurricane Sandy moves forward, people who suffered minor inconveniences during the storm are beginning to ask how they can help.

Berkeley Mayor Carmen Amato says one tangible way to help fellow residents is by donating clothing and other items to those who have suffered such tremendous losses.

"We're setting up a donation center at our recreation center on Route 9," Amato said, "for residents to donate gently used items for those residents who are displaced and lost everything."

He said the power remained off at the center but it was still a good collection point for items.

The recreation center's address is 630 Atlantic City Boulevard -- which is Route 9. It is across the street from John Hill Insurance Agency, just north of Station Road.

Many of us have furniture or linens to donate ...can our township or volunteers with trucks pick up stuff at our houses and take it to donation centers?
