Nine-year-old Jason Nasr is still a proud member of the Berkeley Little League's Tigers.

But he won't be able to play this season. The third-grader at H & M Potter School was diagnosed with a form of muscle cancer earlier this year. He has already endured two surgeries. He's facing intensive chemotherapy and a full month of radiation.

"He has to be home-schooled," said Michele Delaney, who has already organized several fund-raisers to help the family defray Jason's medical costs.

His teammates all wear his number on the backs of their helmets.

"He didn't really get to play a game," Delaney said.

And tonight, if he is up to it, Jason will throw out the first pitch in the clash between the Central Regional High School's Golden Eagles and the Manchester Township High School team at the Berkeley Little League field on Moorage Avenue.

Delaney is organizing a 50/50 raffle at the game, with half of the proceeds going to the family. She will also have a donation jar at the game, so people can make contributions.

Delaney and Shawn Shea will also be selling helmet stickers with Jason's number on them for $2.

A recent fund-raiser held at the Yogurt Factory was "a huge success" and netted $700, Delaney said.

"They have just been wonderful," Delaney said. "Very supportive."

Delaney is also having blue and white bandannas made up to sell to support the family. Berkeley Patch will update as soon as they become available.
