Barnegat Light 2011

Guide to beach badge prices, lifeguard hours

With wide beaches that a borough employee describes as “just wonderful,”a visit to Barnegat Light can offer the relaxation of a classic day at the beach with maybe a pinch of history when the sunbathing is done.

Seasonal beach badges are currently available for $25. The price increases to $35 on June 15. Senior citizens, ages 65 and older, can purchase a seasonal pass for $10. Weekly badges also are available at a rate of $20 — with a week being defined as running from Saturday to Friday.

The daily rate is $5 per person. Children under 12 are admitted for free.
There is also a $1 per badge charge for any badges that are purchased on the beach. Badges are currently on sale at Borough Hall, located at 10 East 7th Street. The municipal building is open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Beach badges can also be purchased at a booth on West 11th Street that is currently open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The booth’s hours will be gradually expanding from now until June 18, at which time it will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.

For more information about beach badges call Borough Hall at 609-494-9196.

Lifeguards will be on duty from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week starting June 18.

There are no restrooms at the beaches. The closest public restroom is at the boat ramp on West 10th Street. There also are no showers or changing facilities. Public restrooms can also be found at Barnegat Lighthouse State Park.

Parking is free but must be found along the public streets. There are no dogs allowed on the beach from April 15 to October 1.

Don't forget to check out Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, which is home to “Old Barney”—a 172-foot lighthouse that dates to 1859.

The lighthouse is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (weather permitting) from Memorial Day through Labor Day. There is a $1 fee per person to enter the lighthouse from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Children under 12 are free but must be accompanied by an adult.

The park is also home to a 1/5-mile-long forest trail, a saltwater fishing walkway and picnic area.

The gates to the park are currently open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. After June 18 the gates will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., until Labor Day.

For more information call the park office at 609-494-2016.
