Asbury Park Man Charged With DUI, Reckless Driving In South Seaside Park MVA
Power and gas supply knocked out to nearby residents
An Asbury Park man was charged with driving while under the influence follwing a one-vehicle crash in the South Seaside Park section of Berkeley Township Saturday night.
In addition to DUI, Anthony Allen, 60, was issued a summons for refusal to take a breathalyzer test and charged with reckless driving, Berkeley Township police said.
The accident occurred approximately 7:47 p.m. at Central Avenue and 21st Street when Allen's vehicle struck a fence.
The impact knocked out power and the gas supply to nearby residents. Jersey Central Power & Light and New Jersey Natural Gas responded to the accident scene. Power was restored by noon Sunday, police said.
Allen's car was impounded under John's Law. John's law, which was enacted in NJ in 2005, allows state and local police to impound the vehicles of those that are charged with being under the influence for 12 hours.
Traffic Safety Officer Tammy Clermont is the investigating officer.

No..it's so IF you get out of jail , you can't get BACK into your car and drive and KILL someone..still legally drunk and back on the road. You can't use or get to your car for 12 hours ( sober- time out ) This happened and the law was enacted because someone was KILLED by a released drunk, who did in fact drive and killed someone a few hours later.
